AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION SOUTHWEST ALASKA
500 PM ADT MON JUN 14 2004

.DISCUSSION...AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE EASTERN PART OF THE STATE
STRETCHING SOUTHEAST INTO THE PANHANDLE WILL INCREASE SLIGHTLY IN
STRENGTH AND REMAIN STATIONARY THROUGH MID WEEK. AN UPPER LEVEL LOW
SOUTH OF SAND POINT WILL REMAIN THE SAME STRENGTH AND MOVE OVER SAND
POINT WEDNESDAY. A SECOND AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE MOVING INTO THE
WESTERN ALEUTIANS WILL INCREASE THE NORTHERLY WINDS OVER THE EASTERN
AND CENTRAL ALEUTIANS TUESDAY.

MAIN ISSUE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WILL BE CONVECTION IN THE
INTERIOR. THE KUSKOKWIM VALLEY WILL LIKELY SEE SOME THUNDERSTORMS
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THERE IS A CHANCE IN THE Y-K DELTA AREA
AND ALSO INTO BRISTOL BAY...THESE TWO AREAS MAY NOT GET ENOUGH
CLEARING FOR THE LOW LEVEL HEATING NECESSARY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
THUNDER. ATMOSPHERIC DYNAMICS ARE MARGINAL IN THE Y-K DELTA AND
BRISTOL BAY. DYNAMICS ARE MUCH BETTER IN THE KUSKOKWIM VALLEY AND
ALONG THE ALASKA RANGE.

THE ATMOSPHERE STABILIZES SOME TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY SO NO
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED EITHER OF THESE TWO DAYS.
