AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA 345 AM CST TUE 18 NOV 2003 SQUALL LINE CONTINUES TO PUSH ACROSS SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA. TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT FOR THE OUR LOUISIANA PARISHES OTHER THAN VERNON UNTIL 8 A.M. NO WARNINGS HAVE BEEN ISSUED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF HOURS WITH THE STORMS BUT GOOD SHEAR PROFILE STILL EXISTS SO ISOLATED TORNADOES STILL NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION... MAIN THREAT APPEARS TO BE HEAVY RAIN ALONG THE SQUALL LINE WITH RAINFALL RATES NEAR 2 INCHES PER HOUR MOVING INTO SOUTH-CENTRAL LOUISIANA. HEAVIEST RAIN APPEARS TO BE MOVING INTO AREAS THAT HAVE HAD LITTLE RAIN OVER THE LAST MONTH OR SO WIDESPREAD FLOODING NOT EXPECTED...BUT WILL KEEP FLOOD WATCH UNTIL NOON OVER LA ZONES. SHOWERS WILL END FROM WEST TO EAST DURING THE MORNING AND AFTERNOON AS SURFACE WINDS BECOME SOUTHWEST AND THEN WESTERLY THIS AFTERNOON. SURFACE WINDS WILL BE RATHER GUSTY ESPECIALLY OVER THE COASTAL WATERS SO WILL PUT IN A SCA OVER ALL THE COASTAL WATERS FOR TODAY. MUCH DRIER AIR WILL BE USHERED INTO THE AREA BEHIND THE SURFACE COLD FRONT AND DRY SEASONAL WEATHER WILL PREVAIL THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK. UPPER TROF WILL DEEPEN OVER THE WESTERN U.S. OVER THE WEEKEND AND PUSH ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS.
