AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA
915 AM PDT TUE JUN 18 2002

.SYNOPSIS...AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER WASHINGTON WILL MOVE EAST
TODAY...ALLOWING AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE JUST OFFSHORE TO MOVE OVER THE
AREA WEDNESDAY...AND REMAIN THROUGH FRIDAY. THE AIR MASS WILL
GRADUALLY DRY AND WARM UP AS THE RIDGE BUILDS. A PUGET SOUND
CONVERGENCE ZONE WILL WEAKEN THROUGH TONIGHT...THEN DISSIPATE
WEDNESDAY AS OFFSHORE BEGINS TO DEVELOP.

.DISCUSSION...WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS THE UPPER LEVEL LOW IS RIGHT
OVER W WA THIS MORNING AND MDLS TAKE IT FAIRLY RAPIDLY INTO ERN WA BY
THIS AFTERNOON. WITH THE COLDEST AIR ALOFT IN THE LOW MISSING THE
AFTERNOON HEATING PERIOD WL TAKE OUT THE CHANCE OF TSTMS FROM THE
FCST EXCEPT FOR THE PSCZ. MESO-ETA STILL SHOWS ABT 300 J/KG CAPE
AVAILABLE THIS AFTN FOR THE PSCZ TO WORK WITH. BREAKS IN CLD COVER
OVR NW INTR GIVE A LITTLE HOPE THAT THE 59-60F CONVECTIVE TEMP MIGHT
BE REACHED THIS AFTN.

UPR RIDGE OFSHR MOVS IN OVR PACNW WED AS UPR LOW MOVS E. THIS SHOULD
HOLD THRU FRI AND MAYBE EVEN INTO SAT. SEVERAL THINGS OF INTEREST
OCCUR AS RDG BUILDS. PSCZ PERSISTS TONIGHT...BUT SHOULD BE JUST ABOUT
GONE BY WED MORNING. OFFSHORE FLOW SHOULD DEVELOP BY WED AFTN WITH
WEAK ELY FLOW AT 850 MB DEVELOPING WED NIGHT/THU. WL BOOST MAXES THU
AND INCLUDE MORE SUNSHINE. MDLS AGREE THAT A WEAK UPR LOW WILL
PENETRATE THE RIDGE THU...BUT LATEST SOLUTIONS TAKE THE LOW S OVER
SRN OREGON/N CA WITH ONLY A WEAK UPR TROF OVR THE CASCDS. THE UPR
TROF IS WEAK ENOUGH TO HAVE LITTLE EFFECT ON THE SFC PATTERN...
HOWEVER WITH THE UPR TROF NEARBY...WL NEED TO REMAIN OPEN TO THE
POSSIBILITY OF SOME CONVECTION OVR THE CASCDS. SO FAR THE AMS LOOKS
TOO DRY.

EXTENDED...NEXT WK FRONT CREEPS UP TO THE CST SAT THEN DISSIPATES...
WITH PCPN BARELY BRUSHING THE N CST. WL WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE NEW 12Z
AVN HAS BEFORE INCLUDING ANY PCPN IN FCST. KAM

.SEW...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY STRAIT OF JUAN DE FUCA.

.KATX...VCP21/CSR32...OPERATIONAL.
