SOUTH PLAINS AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX 250 PM CDT FRI SEP 13 2002 12Z ANALYSIS AND WATER VAPOR LOOP SHOWED A MID/UPPER LEVEL LOW OVER THE NEBRASKA PANHANDLE WITH SOME EMBEDDED SHORTWAVES ROTATING AROUND THE LOW. ONE SHORTWAVE SEEN ON SATELLITE CURRENTLY LOCATED OVER THE EASTERN PANHANDLES AND EASTERN SOUTH PLAINS WITH OTHER SHORTWAVES MOVING EAST ACROSS NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. MODELS ARE IN FAIRLY GOOD AGREEMENT ON OPENING THE LOW AND MOVING IT NORTHEAST INTO THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY SATURDAY MORNING WITH THE SOUTHERN END OF THE TROF MOVING SLOWLY SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE TEXAS PANHANDLE EARLY ON SUNDAY THEN INTO THE SOUTHERN LOW ROLLING PLAINS BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. SURFACE LOW OVER SOUTHEAST COLORADO AND LEE TROF OVER EASTERN NEW MEXICO EXPECTED TO MOVE EASTWARD WITH A COLD FRONT OVER THE PANHANDLES BY EARLY MORNING. ISOLATED SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ARE CURRENTLY DEVELOPING NEAR THE SHORTWAVE OVER THE NORTHERN LOW ROLLING PLAINS. OTHER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE DEVELOPING OVER THE EASTERN PLAINS OF NEW MEXICO.
