SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
850 PM CST MON NOV 25 2002

PRETTY GOOD RANGE OF DEW POINTS ACROSS CWA...LOWER 30S EXTREME
NORTH TO MID 40S SOUTHEAST. CURRENTLY...DRY LOWEST LAYERS KEEPING
MOST RAIN FROM REACHING THE GROUND. HOWEVER...THESE LOWEST LAYERS
SHOULD MOISTEN UP OVER NIGHT AND SERIES OF VORT MAXES WILL ENHANCE
PRECIP DEVELOPMENT...MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. TONIGHTS LOWS LOOK OK
AT THIS POINT. IN UPDATE WILL ONLY ADJUST INCONSISTENT LOWS IN A
COUPLE OF ZONE GROUPS FOR SATURDAY MORNING.

3/13/DC

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...
THE PREVIOUS FORECAST REMAINS ON TRACK WITH AN OVERRUNNING PATTERN
SETTING UP AND 850MB FLOW BEGINNING TO BACK TO THE SE. THE BIG
QUESTIONS/CONCERNS THROUGH FRIDAY CONTINUE TO BE THE POSSIBILITY OF
FREEZING RAIN ACROSS OUR NORTHERN-MOST HILL COUNTRY COUNTIES AND
WHEN(IF) PRECIP WILL SHUT OFF THIS WEEK. COLD AIR ADVECTION
ASSOCIATED WITH A SECONDARY PUSH SHOULD ARRIVE LATE TUESDAY INTO
TUESDAY NIGHT. CURRENT THINKING IS THAT COLD AIR ADVECTION ALONE
WILL NOT BE ENOUGH TO GET SUB FREEZING TEMPS INTO THE NORTHERN HILL
COUNTRY...BUT PRECIP FALLING INTO THAT LAYER SHOULD PROVIDE ENOUGH
EVAPORATIVE COOLING TO GET TEMPS AT OR BELOW FREEZING BETWEEN 06Z
AND 15Z WEDNESDAY. NO SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE
FORECAST...BUT ENOUGH COULD ACCUMULATE ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES TO
CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS.

THE LATEST DATA FROM MEDIUM RANGE MODELS...EXCEPT FOR THE
GFS...CONTINUE TO SHOW THE UPPER LOW RETROGRADING OFFSHORE OF SOCAL
AND SHORTWAVE RIDGING(SUBSIDENCE) TAKING OVER HERE LATE WEDNESDAY
INTO THURSDAY. THE LATEST EXTENDED FORECAST DISCUSSION FROM HPC
LENDS CONFIDENCE TO THE NON-GFS SOLUTIONS...WHICH FAVORS OUR CURRENT
FORECAST OF NO PRECIP ON TURKEY DAY OR FRIDAY.

WILL CONTINUE WITH ANOTHER COLD FRONT LATE IN THE CYCLE AND CHANCES
FOR PRECIP DAYS 5-7.
