WEST CENTRAL TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANGELO TX 223 PM CDT THU JUN 13 2002 MCS CONTINUES TO ROLL ACROSS THE RED RIVER VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON... CLIPPING THE EXTREME NORTHERN BIG COUNTRY. MCS WILL LEAVE AN OUTFLOW BOUNDARY ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY FOR LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. FARTHER NORTH...BEST GUESS IS THAT THE ACTUAL COLD FRONT IS FARTHER NORTH...STRETCHING FROM NORTH OF KLBB TO WESTERN OKLAHOMA. ALOFT ...RIDGE HAS SHIFTED FARTHER SOUTHWEST AS EXPECTED...LEAVING NORTHWEST FLOW ACROSS THE AREA. 12Z UPPER AIR ANALYSIS ALSO INDICATED VERY STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES POISED ACROSS EASTERN NEW MEXICO AND THE TEXAS SOUTH PLAINS AND PANHANDLE. SEVERAL CONCERNS FOR TONIGHT. FIRST...WILL CONVECTION FIRE ALONG THE OUTFLOW BOUNDARY ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY. FIRST THOUGHT THIS MORNING THAT CAP WOULD BE TOO STRONG...BUT WITH CONVERGENCE ALONG THE BOUNDARY...TEMPERATURES IN THE 90S...AND DEWPOINTS STILL HOLDING NEAR 70...STARTING TO HAVE DOUBTS. IF CONVECTION CAN DEVELOP...WITH CAPES OF 3000 TO 4000...SOME COULD QUICKLY BECOME SEVERE. NEXT QUESTION CONCERNS A POSSIBLE MCS. STILL THINK A MCS WILL DEVELOP ALONG THE BOUNDARY AND WITH THE BEST MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES OFF TO THE NORTHWEST ALONG THE TEXAS AND NEW MEXICO BORDER...AND THEN DIVE SOUTH SOUTHEAST AFTER MIDNIGHT. BEST RAIN CHANCES WITH THE MCS WILL LIKELY BE ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF OF THE AREA. WILL CONTINUE TO CARRY SOME POPS FOR FRIDAY...MAINLY FOR LINGERING ACTIVITY IN THE MORNING. WILL LOWER LOWS TONIGHT JUST A TAD...MAINLY TO ACCOUNT FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME RAIN COOLER AIR. WITH THE REMNANT OF THE MCS PASSING OFF TO THE SOUTH AND WEST... FRIDAY AFTERNOON LOOKS FAIRLY PLEASANT. FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL HAVE ALSO PASSED THROUGH...SO SLIGHTLY COOLER CONDITIONS IN STORE. AVN GUIDANCE LOOKS A LITTLE TOO COOL AND WILL STAY CLOSER TO THE WARMER ETA TEMPS. WITH NORTHWEST FLOW...ALWAYS HARD TO RULE OUT MAINLY NOCTURNAL CONVECTION... AS STORMS THAT DEVELOP IN UPSLOPE FLOW OUT TO THE NORTHWEST MOVE SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. WILL LEAVE POPS AS IS FOR THE WEEKEND AND INTO THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. CCF PRELIMS... THE PRIMARY RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS WILL BE NORTH OF A LINE FROM BROWNWOOD TO CHRISTOVAL TO OZONA. AN OUTFLOW BOUNDARY WILL SAG SOUTH ACROSS THE SOUTHERN BIG COUNTRY INTO THE CONCHO VALLEY AND HEARTLAND DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG THIS BOUNDARY. A COLD FRONT...LOCATED OVER THE TEXAS PANHANDLE AT MID AFTERNOON THURSDAY...WILL MOVE SOUTH INTO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS TONIGHT. ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS COULD DEVELOP ALONG AND AHEAD OF THIS COLD FRONT AS IT APPROACHES. WITH SUFFICIENT WIND SHEAR AND STRONG INSTABILITY OVER THE REGION... SOME OF THE STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE. THE MAIN SEVERE WEATHER THREATS WILL BE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. WITH ABUNDANT LOW LEVEL MOISTURE IN THE REGION...HEAVY RAIN WILL ACCOMPANY THE STORMS.
