DEEP SOUTH TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BROWNSVILLE TX
255 PM CDT MON JUL 15 2002

SATELLITE PICTURES INDICATE TWO AREAS OF CONCERN. ONE LOW PRESSURE
AREA OVER CENTRAL TEXAS AND THE OTHER AREA OVER THE WESTERN GULF OF
MEXICO WILL HAVE A SURFACE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE IN BETWEEN THE TWO
AREAS. THIS WILL CAUSE SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TO INCREASE
OVER THE AREA TONIGHT AND TUESDAY...ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TROUGH OF
LOW PRESSURE MOVES INLAND LATER TONIGHT. WILL HAVE FAIRLY HIGH POPS
TONIGHT AND TUESDAY AS THE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE SLOWLY MOVES
WEST. THE BRO SOUNDING THIS MORNING SHOWED A PWAT OF 2.20 AND A
K-INDEX OF 31. WOULD EXPECT SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TO
INCREASE RAPIDLY AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. AS THE TROUGH OF LOW
PRESSURE MOVES WEST ON TUESDAY SHOWERS WILL INCREASE OVER THE
WESTERN PORTION OF DEEP SOUTH TEXAS WHILE THE REMAINDER OF DEEP
SOUTH TEXAS WILL SHOW A SLIGHT DECREASE. TEMPERATURES WILL NOT
QUITE BE AS WARM TUESDAY AS TODAY DUE TO INCREASE CLOUD COVER.
WINDS WILL INCREASE SLIGHTLY FROM THE SOUTHEAST AS THE GRADIENT
TIGHTENS. THE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL BE IN SOUTHWEST TEXAS BY
TUESDAY NIGHT CAUSING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO END AT THAT TIME.
A RELATIVELY DRY AND STABLE AIRMASS WILL BE IN STORE FOR DEEP SOUTH
TEXAS ON WEDNESDAY.

MARINE...BOY020 SHOWED A WIND FROM THE SOUTH AT 14 GUSTS TO 19 KNOTS
WITH 5 FOOT SEAS. SEAS HAVE DECREASED ENOUGH THIS AFTERNOON TO TAKE
OUT THE SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY AT THIS TIME. WINDS SHOULD INCREASE
LATER TONIGHT AND TUESDAY TO WARRANT ANOTHER SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY.
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BE MORE NUMEROUS TONIGHT AND
TUESDAY AS THE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE MOVES INLAND.

LONG TERM...A RELATIVELY DRY AND STABLE AIRMASS WILL BE IN STORE FOR
THE AREA LATER IN THE WEEK THROUGH THE WEEKEND. ISOLATED SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS COULD DEVELOP AHEAD OF A SEA BREEZE FRONT BY THE
BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK AS MOISTURE SLOWLY BEGINS TO INCREASE ONCE
AGAIN.
