AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR 400 PM AST WED JUL 31 2002 NOT MUCH CHANGE IN THE NEW GUIDANCE. THE LOW TO THE NORTHEAST IN THE MID ATLANTIC WILL CONTINUE TO PERTURB THE MID ATLANTIC RIDGE AND THE LOCAL AREA WILL CONTINUE TO BE IN THE COL OF THE WIND DISCONTINUITY. ACCORDING TO THE LATEST GUIDANCE...THE MID ATLANTIC RIDGE MIGHT BUILD BACK INTO THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN BY SUNDAY. UNTIL THEN LIGHT AND VARIABLE WINDS SHOULD DOMINATE OVER THE LOCAL AREA. A MID LEVEL TROUGH DEVELOPING ALONG THE SOUTHEAST U.S. WILL CONTINUE TO DISTORT AND ERODE THE MID LEVEL RIDGE TO THE NORTHWEST OF THE LOCAL AREA. SO THE STRONG SUBSIDENCE FROM THE PREVIOUS DAYS WILL NOT DOMINATE...BUT THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ENOUGH DYNAMICS FROM THE SYNOPTIC SCALE TO AID IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONVECTION. SO FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS THE NORMAL DAYTIME HEATING AND LOCAL ISLAND EFFECTS WILL RESULT IN LATE AFTERNOON CONVECTION...MAINLY IN INTERIOR PUERTO RICO ALONG THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS. THE COASTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN STABLE AS THERE WILL BE NO LOCAL WIND DRIVEN WAVES WITH THE LOW TO THE NORTHEAST PERTURBING THE NORMAL TRADES AND THERE IS NO OTHER LARGE SYNOPTIC SCALE FORCING FOR SWELL GENERATION.
