AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BINGHAMTON NY
150 AM EDT FRI MAY 3 2002

VIGOROUS UPPER SHORT WAVE MOVING ACROSS WRN LAKE ONTARIO IS KICKING
OFF SOME SHOWERS ACROSS WRN NYS ATTM. THE BULK OF THIS ENERGY WILL
MOVE THROUGH THE ADIRONDACKS EARLY THIS MORNING AND TAKE THE CURRENT
PCPN WITH IT. HOWEVER A TRAILING SHORT WAVE ENERGY WILL SWING
THROUGH WITH THE MAIN SYNOPTIC TROF AXIS THIS AFTERNOON. WITH COLD
850MB TEMPS AND SOME LINGERING SYNOPTIC LOW LEVEL MOISTURE THIS
UPPER ENERGY SHOULD COMBINE WITH DIURNAL INSTABILITY TO REGENERATE
SOME POPCORN SHOWER ACTIVITY. THE TROF AXIS SHOULD BE THROUGH THE
NWRN HALF OF THE AREA BY 18Z AND CLEAR THE REST OF THE REGION
SHORTLY THEREAFTER. CURRENT FORECAST ADVERTISING CHC POPS SEEMS TO
BE ON TARGET.

STRONG LOW LEVEL WIND FIELD WITH GOOD MIXING AND MOMENTUM TRANSFER
INDICATED BY THE MODEL SOUNDINGS SHOULD LEAD TO A WINDY DAY. WINDS
WILL GRADUALLY SUBSIDE THIS EVENING AS HIGH BUILDS IN AND IT SHOULD
BE A GOOD NIGHT FOR RAD COOLING.

******AFTER COORDINATION WILL GO AHEAD AND ISSUE A FROST ADVISORY
FOR ACTIVE FROST/FREEZE COUNTIES ACROSS THE FINGER LAKES/WRN MOHAWK
AND THE WYOMING VALLEY OF NE PA. MINS TONIGHT IN THESE AREAS WILL BE
IN THE MID 30S AND FALL WITHIN THE UPPER RANGE OF A FROST
ADVISORY******

WITH RIDGING SFC AND ALOFT THROUGH SATURDAY THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY
OF TRANQUIL SPRING WEATHER ON TAP. NEXT SYNOPTIC TROF WILL SWING BY
WELL TO OUR NORTH WITH A WEAK TRAILING FRONT DRIFTING THROUGH THE
REGION SATURDAY NIGHT WHILE ANOTHER SHORT WAVE SCOOTS BY WELL TO OUR
SOUTH. THIS WILL GIVE A SOLID STRETCH OF QUIET WEATHER WITH
MODERATING TEMPS THROUGH THE WEEKEND. NEXT CHANCE OF PCPN LOOKS LIKE
IT WILL BE ON MONDAY WITH SOME ENERGY MOVING OUT OF THE OHIO VALLEY.
BUT WE LOOK TO REMAIN ON THE NRN PERIPHERY OF THIS SYSTEM AS IT
MOVES THROUGH THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC REGION. MORE SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE
AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY AS A LOW WINDING UP OVER ERN CANADA BRINGS A WARM
FRONT THROUGH THE REGION.

MOS TEMPS VERIFY WELL WITH UPSTREAM VALUES SO WILL HAVE GOOD
CONFIDENCE IN THE NUMBERS.
