1030 AM CDT MON JUL 1 2002

A BROAD FLAT TROUGH WAS ALONG THE INTERNATIONAL BORDER. WATER VAPOR
LOOP SHOWS A SHORT WAVE NEAR LAKE YWG AND ANOTHER OVER FAR SOUTHERN
SASKATCHEWAN. POCKET OF HIGH THETA-E AIR WAS ACROSS EASTERN SD THIS
MORNING AND WILL SHIFT INTO WEST CENTAL MN THIS AFTERNOON. SURFACE
LOW WAS OVER NORTH CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE INTO
WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA THIS AFTERNOON. SURFACE DEWPOINTS HAVE JUMPED
INTO THE UPPER 60S IN SOUTHEAST ND ALREADY. STRONG SURFACE MOISTURE
FLUX CONVERGENCE WAS CENTERED OVER JMS. CONVERGENCE MAXIMUM APPEARS
TO STAY NORTH OF SURFACE LOW. HOWEVER 88D HAS STRONG STORMS FARTHER
N ALONG THE INTERNATIONAL BORDER. ETA MODEL SOUNDING AT ABR AND BIS
MATCHES REASONABLY WELL WITH THE MORNING OBSERVED. HOWEVER THE
OBSERVED SOUNDING AT GGW WAS MUCH DRIER AROUND 700 MB THAN WHAT THE
ETA HAD FORECAST. KMVX 88D VAD WIND SHOWING GOOD INFLOW THIS MORNING
WITH SE WIND AT 30 KNOTS. KBIS VAD WIND HAD A BACKING PROFILE. GOING
FORECAST LOOKS REASONABLE. WILL CHECK ZONES.

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND
EARLY EVENING FOR EXTREME EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA AND NORTHWEST AND
WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA...

SYNOPSIS...
LOW PRESSURE OVER EXTREME SOUTHWEST NORTH DAKOTA WILL MOVE EAST AND
BE LOCATED NEAR FARGO BY MID AFTERNOON...WITH A WARM FRONT EAST FROM
THE LOW ACROSS NORTHERN MINNESOTA.  THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BE
NEAR BEMIDJI BY EARLY EVENING.  WARM AND MOIST AIR WILL RAPIDLY
RETURN NORTH AHEAD OF THIS LOW INTO FAR EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA AND
NORTHWEST MINNESOTA TODAY.  THE ATMOSPHERE WILL BECOME VERY UNSTABLE
THIS AFTERNOON NEAR THE WARM FRONT AND AREA OF LOW PRESSURE CAUSING
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT.  SOME STORMS MAY BECOME SEVERE.
THE COVERAGE OF SEVERE WEATHER IS UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME AS WARM
TEMPERATURES IN THE MID LAYERS OF THE ATMOSPHERE MAY INHIBIT
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT.

LOCATIONS FROM THE RED RIVER VALLEY AND POINTS EAST THROUGH
NORTHWEST AND WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA.
