.UPDATED...COLD FRONT IS RIGHT ON THE DOORSTEP OF EXTREME
NORTHWESTERN MAINE AND WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE TO THE SW THIS
AFTERNOON. WILL TRIM BACK POPS IN NORTHERN SPLIT WITH SHOWERS AND
TSTMS COMING TO AN END IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. WILL GO WITH
CATEGORICAL POPS/TSTMS ELSEWHERE. THREAT FOR SEVERE STORMS IS
LIMITED THIS AFTERNOON...BUT CANNOT RULE OUT A FEW STRONGER CELLS
PRODUCING WIND DAMAGE.

WILL ALSO RAISE HIGH TEMPS DOWNEAST BASED ON OBS. BGR COULD EASILY
SEE 90.

SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION AND OFF THE COAST BY
EARLY THIS EVENING. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL ACCOMPANY THE
PASSAGE OF THE FRONT WITH CLEARING TO FOLLOW IN NORTHERN AREAS THIS
AFTERNOON AND DOWNEAST THIS EVENING. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD IN FROM
CANADA WITH A COOLER AND LESS HUMID AIR MASS TONIGHT AND REMAIN
THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK.

LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS (06Z) INDICATING STRONG COLD FRONT CURRENTLY
APPROACHING THE ST. LAWRENCE VALLEY. MSAS ISALLOBARIC ANALYSIS
INDICATING AREA OF 3 TO 4 MB PRES RISES ACROSS SOUTHWEST QUEBEC
PROVINCE ALONG WITH PROGRESSIVE UPPER TROUGH WILL HELP PUSH FRONT
EASTWARD TODAY. ETA/AVN/NGM ALL HAD A GOOD HANDLE ON FRONTAL POSITION
AT 06Z AND ARE IN CLOSE AGREEMENT IN MOVING THE FRONT OFF THE COAST
BY EARLY THIS EVENING.

FORECAST CONCERN ACROSS THE CWFA WILL BE THE STRENGTH OF THE
CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY TO DEVELOP IN ADVANCE OF FROPA TODAY. ETA BUFKIT
SOUNDINGS INDICATE CAPE VALUES UP TO 1000 J/KG WITH LIS LOWERING TO
ABOUT MINUS 3 ACROSS THE CWFA AROUND MIDDAY. MUCH OF THE LLVL/UPPER
JET ENERGY TO SUPPORT SIGNIFICANT SHEAR ALOFT MOVES WELL TO THE NORTH
AND EAST LENDING LITTLE SUPPORT FOR SEVERE ACTIVITY ACROSS THE CWFA
TODAY. WILL CONTINUE WITH LIKELY/CATEGORICAL CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY
WORDING ACROSS THE CWFA BUT NOT ENHANCE TO WORDING WITH LIMITED
SUPPORT ALOFT.

WITH FRONT MOVING OFF THE COAST EXPECT MUCH COOLER AND DRIER AIR TO
OVERSPREAD THE REGION AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN TONIGHT. BASED ON
TEMPERATURES UPSTREAM UNDER THE APPROACHING RIDGE WILL GO BELOW
FWC/MAV TEMP GUIDANCE FOR MINS (INSPITE OF THE MIXING/WINDS
OCCURRING) TONIGHT AND AGAIN UNDER CLEAR AND RELATIVELY CALM
CONDITIONS FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT. SURFACE RIDGE BUILDS JUST NORTH OF
THE REGION KEEPING THE CWFA UNDER PLEASANT AND DRY CONDITIONS INTO
THE END OF THE WEEK.

COASTAL WATERS...WILL CONTINUE SCA. TIGHT GRADIENT PERSISTS AHEAD OF
THE COLD FRONT...WITH CURRENT OBS AND SEAS SUPPORTING SCA CRITERIA.
EXPECT SCAS TO CONTINUE INTO EARLY TONIGHT BEFORE WINDS/SEAS GO
BELOW CRITERIA LATER TONIGHT.
