AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
145 AM CDT TUE JUL 30 2002

PRIMARY FORECAST CONCERN REMAINS THE SMALL CHANCE FOR SHOWER AND
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TODAY. LATEST KPAH 88D TIME LAPSE SHOWS A FEW
SHOWERS LEFT JUST SOUTHEAST OF PADUCAH FROM THE CONVECTION THAT
DEVELOPED DURING THE EVENING HOURS. ACTIVITY APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN
FOCUSED IN THE HIGHER THETA-E AIR ALONG AND JUST SOUTH OF A WEAK 850
MB THERMAL BOUNDARY STRETCHING ACROSS SOUTHWEST INDIANA...SOUTHERN
ILLINOIS...AND INTO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI. MODELS ARE CONSISTENT IN
DRIFTING THIS BOUNDARY SLOWLY SOUTH ACROSS THE REGION TODAY. WITH
THE PRESENCE OF THE BOUNDARY...COPIOUS MOISTURE...AND ALREADY
UNSTABLE CONDITIONS...WILL MAINTAIN CHANCE POPS OVER SOUTHERN
COUNTIES TODAY. MODEL SOUNDINGS DEPICT MUCH DRIER AIR WILL WORK INTO
NORTHERN PARTS OF THE REGION JUST ABOVE THE BOUNDARY LAYER...SO WILL
LEAVE OUT ANY MENTION OF PRECIPITATION THERE. I SUPPOSE AN ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORM COULD NOT BE RULED OUT...BUT ANTICIPATED COVERAGE IS
TOO SMALL TO JUSTIFY A MENTION IN THE FORECAST.

TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY...AVN STRAYS FROM THE NGM/ETA SOLUTIONS BY
MAINTAINING HIGHER MOISTURE LEVELS OVER SOUTHERN COUNTIES. THIS IS
ALSO REFLECTED IN CHANCE POPS FOR MAV MOS SITES IN SOUTHERN MISSOURI
AND KENTUCKY. PREFER THE ETA/NGM SOLUTION FOR ITS BETTER RUN-TO-RUN
CONTINUITY...SO WILL KEEP CONDITIONS DRY FOR PERIODS 2 AND 3.

FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK INTO THE WEEKEND...THE UPPER LEVEL HIGH
CURRENTLY OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN STATES WILL MIGRATE EAST TOWARD THE
MID MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY. THIS WILL RESULT IN MORE HOT DRY
WEATHER RIGHT THROUGH THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. AVN SHOWS A WEAK FRONT
APPROACHING THE AREA ON THURSDAY...BUT THIS WILL LIKELY WASH OUT
BEFORE REACHING THE FOUR-STATE REGION. THINK TEMPERATURES MIGHT TRY
TO REBOUND INTO THE MID 90S AS THE HIGH MOVES CLOSER...BUT WITHOUT
NEW MEX GUIDANCE...WILL STICK WITH GOING FORECAST IN THE LOWER 90S
AT THIS TIME. IN FACT...ANTICIPATE ONLY VERY MINOR CHANGES TO
PRESENT FORECAST...MAINLY TO CONSOLIDATE A FEW ZONE GROUPS.

.PAH...NONE.
