AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY 545 AM EST FRI FEB 1 2002 UPDATED TO INCLUDE WIND ADVISORY THIS MORNING IN FAR EAST THE MODELS SHOW PROGRESSIVE FLOW THE NEXT FEW DAYS WITH NO MAJOR BLOCKS. A SHORT WAVE TROUGH MOVING OVER THE OH VALLEY THIS MORNING DAMPENS AS IT MOVES EAST OF KY THIS MORNING. THE ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WITH A BAND OF SHOWERS WILL MOVE THROUGH EASTERN KY AROUND DAYBREAK. THE BAND OF SHOWERS IS WEAKENING WITH TIME...SINCE THE UPPER SUPPORT HAS ALREADY MOVED OVER THE OH VALLEY. GUSTY WINDS IN THE FRONTAL ZONE SHOULD DROP OFF QUICKLY THROUGH THIS MORNING. UNDER STRONG COLD AIR ADVECTION...HIGHS OF 50 TO 55 AT DAYBREAK THIS MORNING WILL SLOW FALL THROUGH THE 40S DURING THE DAY. EXTENSIVE LOW CLOUDS BEHIND THE FRONT WILL BE SLOW TO BREAK UP. IT WILL BECOME MOSTLY CLEAR TONIGHT AS A SHORT WAVE RIDGE MOVES OVER...WITH TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE 20S. AS THE UPPER FLOW BECOMES ZONAL OVER THE OH VALLEY SATURDAY...IT WILL BE MOSTLY SUNNY BUT SEASONABLY COOL. BY LATE SATURDAY...SPLIT FLOW DEVELOPS OUT WEST WITH AN AMPLIFYING RIDGE OVER THE NORTHWEST STATES. THIS WILL START A LAZY TROUGH OVER CENTRAL AND EASTERN CANADA MOVING SOUTH. THE PATTERN GRADUALLY RETURNS TO THE TYPICAL TROUGH EAST AND RIDGE WEST EARLY NEXT WEEK. AS THE CANADIAN TROUGH AMPLIFIES AND SWINGS SOUTHEAST...NORTHWEST FLOW AND COLD AIR ADVECTION WILL SWEEP OVER THE OH VALLEY SUNDAY AND MONDAY.
