10 AM HST TUE MAR 26 2002

SUMMARY...THE WEST END OF THE ISLAND CHAIN...INCLUDING KAUAI AND
OAHU...WILL SEE MORE CLOUDS TODAY THAN ELSEWHERE. RAIN WILL FALL
MOSTLY OVER KAUAI. WITH A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WEST OF THE
STATE...THE WINDS WILL SHIFT FROM TRADES OVER THE BIG ISLAND TO
SOUTHEASTERLIES OVER KAUAI.

DISCUSSION...THE RAIN PRODUCING KONA LOW NORTHWEST OF KAUAI IS
SLOWLY DEPARTING. A SURFACE RIDGE IS BUILDING WESTWARD NORTH OF THE
STATE WITH TRADES SLOWLY SPREADING FROM THE BIG ISLAND TO THE SMALL
ISLANDS. A SURFACE TROUGH STILL WEST OF THE STATE MAY KEEP THE WINDS
OUT OF THE SOUTHEAST FOR KAUAI. THE TRADES WILL LAST FOR A SHORT
TIME THEN SHIFT OUT OF THE SOUTHEAST IN ADVANCE OF A RATHER STRONG
COLD FRONT. THERE IS A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF UNCERTAINTY AMONGST THE
COMPUTER MODELS AS TO WHEN THE COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE
AREA. IN GENERAL IT LOOKS LIKE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. WINDY AND COOL
WEATHER MAY FOLLOW THE FRONT NEXT WEEK...DEPENDING ON WHICH PROG ONE
BELIEVES IN. AS USUAL...THE MODELS WILL MERGE ON A COMMON SOLUTION
FOR THIS WEEKEND AND NEXT WEEK. WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR THAT TO
HAPPEN. CRAIG.
