HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SYNOPTIC DISCUSSION AND GUIDANCE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI 10 AM HST FRI FEB 8 2002 SUMMARY...A COLD FRONT NEAR OAHU CONTINUES TO PUSH THROUGH THE REST OF THE ISLAND CHAIN TODAY...BRINGING BRIEFLY HEAVY SHOWERS AND WINDS. WHILE THE SHOWERS WILL ABATE SATURDAY...THE STRONG AND GUSTY WINDS WILL PREVAIL THROUGH THE NEXT FEW DAYS. DISCUSSION...A COLD FRONT CONTINUES ITS MARCH SOUTHEASTWARD AT ABOUT 20 MPH THIS HOUR. SEVERAL STATIONS ON OAHU REPORTED SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL IN THE PAST HOURS. BELIEVE THE FRONT IS MOVING FAST ENOUGH NOT TO CAUSE MUCH...IF ANY...PROBLEMS. LOOKS LIKE THE FRONT WILL REACH THE BIG ISLAND TONIGHT. HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING IN FROM THE NORTHWEST BEHIND THIS FRONT WILL KEEP MODERATE TO STRONG TRADE WINDS TO OUR ISLANDS THROUGH THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
