AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSONVILLE FL
305 PM EDT MON JUL 01 2002

CURRENTLY...UPPER TROUGH EXTENDS FROM OFFSHORE THE MID ATLANTIC TO
NORTH GEORGIA AND THEN EXTENDS SOUTH TO ACROSS THE FLORIDA
PENINSULA. THUNDERSTORMS WERE ERUPTING ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE
TROUGH ACROSS EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA AND THE COASTAL WATERS AND WERE
MOVING SOUTHWEST. DRIER AIR (AND MORE STABLE) AIR WAS INFILTRATING
IN FROM THE NORTHEAST RESULTING IN A LOT LESS COVERAGE OF STORMS IN
EXTREME NE FL INTO SE GA. HOWEVER...FROM JUST SOUTH OF JAX TO NORTH
CENTRAL FLORIDA...STORMS WERE FIRING UP WHERE THE ATMOSPHERE WAS
MORE MOIST AND UNSTABLE. SURFACE ANALYSIS HAD A WEAK INVERTED TROUGH
IN THE COASTAL WATERS...A STALLED BOUNDARY ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL
FLORIDA AND AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE ACROSS THE CAROLINAS. THE WIND
FLOW WAS GENERALLY NE OR E IN THE CWA.

TONIGHT...EXPECT STORMS TO CONTINUE TO MOVE IN FROM THE ATLANTIC ACROSS
THE S AND SE CWA AS A RESULT OF PVA ON BACK SIDE OF TROUGH. HIGHEST POPS
FOR THIS EVE WILL BE THE EXTREME S (40 PCT) AND LOWEST POPS (10 PCT)
WILL BE ACROSS SE GA.

TUESDAY...AS DRIER AIR ALOFT AND NVA SWING INTO THE AREA TUESDAY...
WILL LOWER POPS ACROSS THE EXTREME NORTH AND SE GA. WILL HANG ONT0 40 PCT
IN THE EXTREME SOUTH WHERE ENOUGH MOISTURE AND EFFECTS OF UPPER
TROUGH WILL STILL BE FELT. EXPECT GOOD SEABREEZE CONVERGENCE NEAR
I-75 IN FL AND WEST OF 301 IN GA WHICH WILL HELP ENHANCE THE
STORMS.

WED/WED NITE...MOISTURE INCREASES AGAIN WITH MESO-ETA DEVELOPING
GOOD THERMAL TROUGH ACROSS INLAND SE GA AND NORTH FLORIDA DURING THE
AFTERNOON AND EVE. A SHORT WAVE ALSO DROPS SOUTH TOWARDS SE GA LATE
IN THE DAY AND WED EVE. WILL RAISE POPS EVERYWHERE TO 40 TO 50
PCT.

THURSDAY/EXTENDED...ATLANTIC RIDGE WILL BE SOUTH FLORIDA FRIDAY AND
MOVES NORTH INTO NORTH FLORIDA OVER THE WEEKEND. A COLD FRONT STALLS
NORTH OF THE AREA. SHOULD SEE A CONTINUATION OF MAINLY DIURNAL
CONVECTION ENHANCED BY SEABREEZES. TEMPS AND POPS NEAR
CLIMO.

MARINE...NO HEADLINES. MAIN CONCERNS WILL BE THUNDERSTORMS.
