Light southwest flow ahead of a decelerating cold front caused a resurgence of sea fog on successive nights. This time, the fog rolled in a bit sooner, but the effects were the same: widespread visibility near 1/4 mile, locally near zero in low lying areas as well as along the immediate shoreline.

WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL 815 PM EST SUN JAN 20 2002 PRETTY QUIET NIGHT ACROSS INTERIOR SECTIONS WITH ONLY PROBLEMS OCCURRING IN THE OFFSHORE WATERS AND RIGHT ALONG THE COAST. THIS IS IN THE FORM OF A PERSISTENT SEA FOG WITH TWO MAIN AREAS...ONE IN THE NORTHERN LEG AND ONE TO THE SOUTH. SATELLITE TRENDS SHOWING THE FOG TO THE SOUTH MOVING NORTHWEST IN SYNOPTIC SCALE SOUTHEAST FLOW. CLOSER TO THE COAST HOWEVER...SOME DENSE FOG BEING KEPT CLOSE TO THE COAST BY WEST WINDS NEAR SARASOTA. EXPECT THIS TO CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL MORE HOURS BEFORE WINDS SHIFT BACK TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST. WHILE THE FOG OVER THE COASTAL WATERS SHOULD REMAIN OFFSHORE...EXPECT AREAS OF FOG TO FORM OVER THE PENINSULA OVERNIGHT AS DEWPOINTS REMAIN IN THE LOW TO MID 60S. ONLY PROBLEM MAY BE THE ETA/NGM SOLUTION OF LOWER RHS COMING IN AROUND 925 MB. THIS MAY LIMIT THE LOW CLOUDS BUT STILL EXPECT SOME FOG PER GUIDANCE. I HAVE INHERITED A ZONE PACKAGE WHICH COVERS THE ABOVE VERY WELL...SO ONLY A FEW MINOR CHANGES EXPECTED. MARINE...FORECAST ON TRACK AND WILL KEEP SEA FOG WORDING IN.
