EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL
145 PM EDT SUN AUG 11 2002

CURRENTLY/TONIGHT...CONVERGENCE ZONE SET UP ALONG THE SOUTH COAST
AND HAS FOCUSED CONVECTION...RESULTING IN HIGH COVERAGE OF RAINFALL
WITH SEVERAL STORMS AND LOCALLY HEAVY AMOUNTS. THIS BOUNDARY...THE
REMNANTS OF THE SURFACE TROUGH THAT USHERED IN THE NORTHEAST FLOW
SEVERAL DAYS AGO...IS SEEN WELL AT H85. MODELS BREAK OFF THE
SOUTHERN PORTION OF THIS TROUGH AND LIFT IT INTO THE EASTERN GULF
TONIGHT. WILL MONITOR RADAR TRENDS BUT GENERALLY THINK THAT CURRENT
ACTIVITY WILL DIMINISH...AT LEAST SOME...BY EVENING. AS IS OFTEN
THE CASE WITH COASTAL RAIN EVENTS...INTERIOR WILL BE CLOUDED OVER
WITH SUBSTANTIALLY LESS RAINFALL.

MON...MODELS ALL SHOW DEEP MOISTURE ACROSS THE AREA. ETA/AVN MOS
HAVE LIKELY/CATEGORICAL POPS WHILE THE NGM IS IN THE GOOD CHANCE
RANGE. PROSPECTS FOR ANOTHER COASTAL RAIN EVENT SEEM LOWER AS H85
WINDS ARE PROGGED TO DIMINISH AND SHIFT TO SOUTH. INLAND/WESTERN
SECTIONS ARE PROBABLY FAVORED WITH EVIDENCE STILL OF LOW LEVEL
BOUNDARY IN MODEL PROGS.

TUE...MODELS SHOW HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE BECOMING BETTER ESTABLISHED AS
WEAKNESS OVER THE WESTERN ATLANTIC FILLS. ETA HANGS ONTO DEEP
MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH WEAK SURFACE TROUGH THE LONGEST. WITH
SURFACE RIDGE ACROSS THE AREA...WILL TRIM BACK THE SOUTHERN COASTAL
POPS ABOUT 10 PERCENT FIGURING THAT SEA BREEZE CONVECTION SHOULD
FAVOR THE INTERIOR.

WED-SUN...LATEST AVN IS SIMILAR TO PREVIOUS RUN IN SHOWING NORTHERN
STREAM TROUGH DIGGING INTO THE MIDWEST THEN LIFTING OUT THURSDAY.
THIS PROMOTES RIDGING ALOFT OVER THE WESTERN ATLANTIC WHICH IS
PROGGED TO SHIFT ACROSS THE STATE. AVN SHOWS 5970 METER 500MB
HEIGHTS ACROSS THE NORTH PENINSULA AT 12Z FRI. SURFACE RIDGE AXIS IS
GENERALLY SHOWN JUST NORTH OF THE AREA...WITH PRESSURES RISING ABOVE
1020 MB FOR THU-FRI. WITH DEEP LAYER RIDGING...EXPECT THAT COVERAGE
OF RAINFALL WILL BE SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED. RIDGING IS FORECAST TO
WEAKEN BY SUNDAY BUT WILL HAVE TO SEE IF POPS RETURN TO CLIMO BY
THEN.

MARINE...SLIGHT INTERRUPTION OF ONSHORE FLOW IS SUGGESTED BY
GUIDANCE AS SURFACE WAVE ROTATING AROUND RIDGE WEAKENS/SPLITS IT THE
NEXT FEW DAYS. AS ATLANTIC RIDGE REASSERTS ITSELF LATER IN THE
WEAK...ONSHORE FLOW MAY START TO INCREASE AGAIN.
