INTERIOR CENTRAL CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HANFORD CA 900 AM PDT WED JUL 24 2002 WILL BE MAKING MINOR UPDATES TO THE SIERRA AND KERN MOUNTAIN/DESERT ZONES TO REDUCE THE THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS QUITE AN ARRAY OF FEATURES OVER THE AREA AS THE MONSOONAL MOISTURE HEADS NORTH FROM SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA, BUT THEN GETS SHEARED OFF FROM ABOUT THE TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS NORTH AS SOUTHWEST FLOW DOMINATES. THE BIG QUESTION FOR TODAY IS JUST HOW FAR NORTH AND WEST THE MOISTURE WILL ADVECT? LATEST SATELITTE TRENDS AND MENTIONED ABOVE ALONG WITH MORNING MODEL DATA INDICATES THE CONVECTIVE THREAT WILL BE MUCH REDUCED IN THE CENTRAL SIERRA AND EVEN OVER THE SOUTHERN SIERRA AND KERN COUNTY. WILL OPT TO REDUCE POPS BY A CATEGORY OR SO OVER ALL OF THESE AREAS IN RESPONSE. OVER NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS THE UPPER LOW SPINNING OFF THE COAST, AND OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS THE MODELS AGREE THAT THE LOW WILL EJECT NORTHEAST, LEAVING A WEAK TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE AND SOUTHWEST FLOW IN PLACE.
