Area forecast discussion, Aug 4, 1:30 PM PST, 3 hours 35 minutes before
EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA
230 PM PDT SUN AUG 4 2002

.SYNOPSIS...A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE CONTINUES OVER THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST WITH DRY SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT OVER EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN
CALIFORNIA. THIS WILL RESULT GENERALLY DRY STABLE CONDITIONS WITH
SEASONABLE TEMPERATURES MOST OF THE WEEK. THE COASTAL LOW CLOUDS WILL
GRADUALLY DECREASE IN COVERAGE AND DURATION AS HIGH PRESSURE SLOWLY
BUILDS IN FROM THE EAST.

.DISCUSSION...PATTERN PRETTY STAGNANT ON THE CURRENT MODELS. THE PROGS
HAVE THE FLOW ALOFT CONTINUING TO REMAIN GENERALLY SOUTHWEST OVER
EXTREME SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AT LEAST TIL ABOUT FRIDAY...THUS NO MONSOON
ANYTIME SOON. ALTHOUGH...I SHOULD ADD THAT WE MAY SEE A PUFFY CU OR TWO
OVER THE LOCAL MOUNTAINS.

AT THE SURFACE... INCREASING SUBSIDENCE ASSOCIATED WITH THE BACKBUILDING
CONUS HIGH WILL RESULT IN BETTER HEATING...ESPECIALLY INLAND...BUT NOT
MUCH CHANGE AT THE IMMEDIATE COAST. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT THE LONG RANGE
PROGS ARE TRYING TO DROP STRONGER SURFACE HIGHS INTO THE PLATEAU.
THIS COULD AFFECT US WITH SOME PRETTY HOT DAYS...MAINLY VALLEYS AND
DESERTS...BY NEXT WEEKEND. FOR NOW...WE WILL JUST KEEP AN EYE ON
IT...AND CONTINUE TO INCH THE INLAND HIGH TEMPERATURES UPWARD.

SAN...NONE.
