WESTERN NEVADA AND EASTERN CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RENO NV
835 PM PDT SUN APR 14 2002

OVERALL THE STRONGEST WINDS OCCURRED BETWEEN 4 AND 5 PM BUT
OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 50 KNOTS WERE STILL OBSERVED AT WFO RENO AFTER
730 PM AND WASHOE VALLEY JUST BEFORE 730 PM...AND A SPOTTER REPORT
OF 73 MPH IN SW RENO JUST ARRIVED AT 815 PM. SOME DECOUPLING HAS
OCCURRED AT RENO AIRPORT DURING THE PAST HOUR. WIND GUSTS WILL STILL
APPROACH OR REACH WARNING LEVEL AT TIMES SO THE CURRENT PLANS ARE TO
KEEP THE WARNING AND ADVISORY GOING FOR MOST OF THIS EVENING. THE
MESO ETA WIND FIELDS SUGGEST THAT THE NORTHERN ZONES WILL DROP BELOW
ADVISORY CRITERIA AND THE SOUTHERN ZONES WOULD BE DOWNGRADED FROM A
WARNING TO AN ADVISORY WHEN THE NEXT NPW IS ISSUED...PROBABLY
BETWEEN 11 AND 1130 PM.

A SMALL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE EARLIER THIS EVENING FIRED OFF SOME
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTHERN PLUMAS AND SOUTH CENTRAL
LASSEN COUNTY. THIS ACTIVITY HAS WEAKENED WITH THE LOSS OF DAYTIME
HEATING AS IT MOVED ACROSS WASHOE COUNTY NORTH OF GERLACH. THE MAIN
COLD FRONT NOW OVER SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHWEST CA IS EXPECTED TO
CONTINUE MOVING SOUTHEAST OVERNIGHT. THE 00Z MESO ETA MAINTAINS
CONTINUITY WITH THE 18Z WORKSTATION ETA AND 12Z MM5 WITH DEVELOPING
A BAND OF POST FRONTAL PRECIP OVER LASSEN AND NORTHERN WASHOE BY 12Z
MONDAY AND MOVING IT SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE RENO AND LOVELOCK AREAS
BETWEEN 14Z AND 18Z. THICKNESS VALUES WOULD BE LOW ENOUGH FOR MAINLY
SNOW WITH THIS BAND BUT THE GROUND SHOULD BE WARM ENOUGH TO PREVENT
MUCH ACCUMULATION. AN EVENING UPDATE PACKAGE FOR THE NORTHERN AND
CENTRAL ZONES WILL LOWER POPS TO ISOLATED FOR TONIGHT BUT RAISE TO
HIGH CHANCE LEVELS FOR MONDAY MORNING...ALONG WITH CLEANUP OF SOME
EVENING WORDING WHERE NEEDED.

.REV...WIND ADVISORY UNTIL MIDNIGHT ZONES 4..5..70..71
HIGH WIND WARNING UNTIL MIDNIGHT ZONES 1..2..3..72..73
