High Wind, Western Aleutians

An intense 964 mb storm moved by Amchitka from the North Pacific early Tuesday, curving northwest to Cape Olyutorskiy, Russia as a 990 mb center early Thursday. Strong southeasterly winds preceded the front associated with this storm, with strong southwest winds observed along the south semicircle of the low.Pre-frontal southeast winds reached 91 mph at Adak at 9:53 pm AST Monday. Gusty west winds in excess of 60 mph were also observed at Shemya as the low passed. Although significant southeasterly winds were observed across the Pribilofs and eastern Aleutians around Dutch Harbor, speeds were reported under 60 mph in these areas.
