AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR WESTERN SD AND NORTHEASTERN WY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RAPID CITY SD 812 PM MDT FRI JUN 29 2001 THUNDERSTORMS HAVE ENDED ACROSS THE CWFA AS WE AWAIT REDEVELOPMENT OVER NORTHERN WY AND SOUTHERN MT. THE NEXT WEAK SHORT-WAVE TROUGH WAS MOVING INTO WESTERN WY PER WATER VAPOR IMAGES AND THE RUC...AND THIS SHOULD HELP THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT OVER THE NEXT FOUR HOURS AS IT APPROACHES THE BLACK HILLS. STRONG 700-MB WARM ADVECTION AND MLCAPE IN EXCESS OF 2000 J/KG SUGGEST THAT THE DEVELOPMENT WILL BE FAIRLY RAPID. 0-6-KM SHEAR OF 30-45 M/S AND SRH OF 200-400 J/KG INDICATE THAT SUPERCELLS ARE LIKELY...GIVEN CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT. PREDICTED SUPERCELL MOTION IS TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST...WHICH SHOULD BRING THE HIGHEST THREAT TO NORTHEASTERN WY AND THE BLACK HILLS. CURRENT THINKING IS THAT STORMS WILL DEVELOP IN THE VICINITY OF THE BIG HORNS BETWEEN 900 PM AND MIDNIGHT...AND THEN MOVE TOWARD THE BLACK HILLS...SPREADING INTO WESTERN SD AFTER MIDNIGHT. ELSEWHERE ...THE THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS APPEARS MINIMAL OVER CENTRAL SD AS THE AIR MASS HAS STABILIZED AND UPPER FORCING WILL BE LACKING. .UNR...NONE. BUNKERS
