AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHARLESTON WV 310 PM EDT SAT AUG 11 2001 ON THE LATEST SURFACE MAP...AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WAS LOCATED OVER SOUTHERN INDIANA WITH A STATIONARY FRONT EXTENDING EASTWARD ACROSS SOUTHERN OHIO AND EXTREME NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA TO THE NEW JERSEY COAST. KRLX SHOWS NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS... MAINLY SOUTHEAST OF THE REGION. HOWEVER...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE LOCATED OVER MOUNTAINS OF WEST VIRGINIA. BELIEVE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS COULD DEVELOP JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE THIS EVENING AS THE AIRMASS IS QUITE MOIST AND UNSTABLE. THIS CONVECTION SHOULD DIMINISH SOMEWHAT AFTER SUNSET. HOWEVER...MODELS INDICATE SURFACE LOW...POSSIBLY THE ONE CURRENTLY LOCATED OVER INDIANA...WILL APPROACH THE REGION FROM THE WEST WHICH MAY ONCE AGAIN LEAD TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS... ESPECIALLY ACROSS OUR WESTERN COUNTIES. SURFACE LOW SHOULD PASS JUST NORTH OF THE REGION ON SUNDAY. COMBINATION OF ABUNDANT MOISTURE AND LIFT ASSOCIATED WITH SURFACE LOW/APPROACHING MID-LEVEL SHORTWAVE TROF SUGGEST A GOOD CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HAVE BUMPED UP PRECIP CHANCES TO LIKELY REGIONWIDE.
