SYNOPSIS...A COOL AND DRY NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WILL BE OVER THE
STATE TODAY. THE NEXT IN A SERIES OF FAST MOVING PACIFIC WEATHER
SYSTEMS WILL MOVE THROUGH UTAH ON WEDNESDAY.
DISCUSSION...UPDATED TO ADJUST CLOUD COVER OVER THE FAR SOUTHERN
ZONES AND BEEFED UP THE WINDS SLIGHTLY IN A FEW ZONES. STABLE
SURFACE HIGH MOVING FROM WESTERN IDAHO TO YELLOWSTONE THIS AFTERNOON
WITH MODERATE NORTHERLY SFC PRESSURE GRADIENT STATEWIDE.
BIG PICTURE CURRENTLY IS A LONGWAVE TROUGH OVER THE GREAT LAKES AND
A MEAN RIDGE OVER THE EASTERN PACIFIC. TREND WILL BE FOR THE
LONGWAVE TROUGH TO SHIFT WEST TO THE CENTRAL CONUS WITH INCREASING
NORTHWEST FLOW OVER THE ROCKIES. POLAR FRONT PARALLEL TO THE
SIERRAS THEN SOUTHEAST ACROSS NORTHERN ARIZONA. THE FAST MOVING
WAVE APPROACHING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST HAS CLEARED THE RIDGE AND
WILL NOW BEGIN TO SLIDE SOUTHEAST TOWARDS UTAH. GRIDDED DATA SHOWS
STRONG WARM ADVECTION DEVELOPING TONIGHT...MOVING THE POLAR FRONT
NORTH AND OVER UTAH... THEN WEAKER COLD ADVECTION WEDNESDAY AS A
SURFACE WAVE MOVES SOUTHEAST ALONG THE FRONT AND ACROSS UTAH. SYSTEM
WILL EXIT UTAH INTO COLORADO DURING THE AFTERNOON. THE NEXT WAVE
MOVES RAPIDLY SOUTH ALONG THE POLAR FRONT BRINGING MORE
PRECIPITATION ON NORTHWEST FLOW BY EARLY THURSDAY...SHIFTING EAST OF
THE AREA BY THURSDAY EVENING.
THIRD SYSTEM SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY. MORNING AVN RUN STILL COMING IN
BUT TREND IS TOWARDS THE OLD EC FROM YESTERDAY. THAT SOLUTION
SUGGESTS A BRUSH-BY AS OPPOSED TO THE STRONG FRONT IN LAST NIGHTS
MRF. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE MARCH HEAT WAVE IS OVER AND THE MOUNTAINS
SHOULD SEE ENOUGH NEW SNOW THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO GREATLY IMPROVE THE
RIDING CONDITIONS FOR THE SNOW SPORTS ENTHUSIASTS.

Two men were canoeing on Jordanelle Reservoir when thunderstorm outflow winds estimated at 45mph (39kts) capsized the canoe. The men were thrown into the 34 degree water about 25 feet from shore, but they were pushed out further by the wind as they hung onto the canoe. They both became hypothermic, and the 27-year-old man let go of the canoe and drowned. The other man was rescued and sent to the hospital, where he recovered.
