SURFACE FRONTAL BOUNDARY CURRENTLY RESIDING IN VICINITY OF THE
NORTHERN SOUTH PLAINS/SOUTHERN PANHANDLE AND HAS BEEN REINFORCED BY
PERSISTENT CLOUD COVER OVER THE PANHANDLE LEFT FROM LAST NIGHTS MCS.
MOIST EASTERLY UPLSLOPE FLOW BEHIND THE FRONT HAS AIDED CONVECTIVE
INITIATION NEAR THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. THIS ACTIVITY
IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP INTO AN MCS OVERNIGHT AND MOVE EAST/SOUTHEAST
INTO THE FORECAST AREA...SUPPORTED BY EXPECTED STRENGTHENING IN THE
EASTERLY 850 FLOW AND PRESENCE OF 850 AND 700 MB THETA-E RIDGE AXIS.
18Z MESOETA SUPPORTS THIS IN ITS QPF FIELD AND ASSOCIATED GENERATION
OF A CONVECTIVELY INDUCED VORT MAX WHICH TRANSLATES ACROSS THE AREA
THROUGH TOMORROW. CORFIDI VECTORS SUGGEST AN EAST TO SOUTHEAST
MOVEMENT ON ANY MCS COMING OUT OF NORTHEAST NM TONIGHT SO JUST HOW
MUCH OF THE SOUTH PLAINS RECEIVES RAINFALL TONIGHT WILL DEPEND ON
FAR SOUTH THE CONVECTION DEVELOPS IN NEW MEXICO. FOR NOW WILL PLACE
HIGHEST POPS ACROSS THE NORTHERN PART OF THE FORECAST AREA FOR
TONIGHT WITH LOW CHANCE POPS CONTINUING OVER THE AREA FOR SATURDAY.
A CONVECTIVE INDUCED VORT MAX IS EVIDENT IN SATELLITE IMAGERY OVER
SOUTHERN KANSAS. MODELS MOVE THIS SOUTHEAST AND EXPECT ITS INFLUENCE
WILL STAY EAST OF OUR AREA. STILL SOME CHANCE FOR ANOTHER MCS
SATURDAY NIGHT BUT LOW CONFIDENCE EQUALS LOW POPS. AFTER THAT...IT
APPEARS UPPER HIGH WILL BUILD BACK OVER THE AREA AND LOW LEVEL
UPSLOPE FLOW WILL WEAKEN SO WILL GO WITH A DRY FORECAST FOR NEXT
WEEK IN THE EXTENDED.

Strong thunderstorm wind destroyed a large storage building, blew down power lines, and snapped two power poles. A man taking shelter from hail in the storage building was injured. An NWS storm survey indicated that the building was open-sided on the east, the direction from which the wind was blowing, which allowed the wind to enter the structure and lift it off of its foundation.
