SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA AND SOUTHEAST TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
241 PM CDT SAT AUG 18 2001

NOT MUCH ACTION ON THE RADAR SCREEN ATTM...MOST T-STORM ACTIVITY
STAYING TO THE NORTH...ALTHOUGH AEX/ESF HAD SOME GUSTY 30 MPH WINDS
ASSOCIATED WITH ONE STORM. TEMPS MAINLY IN THE LOWER 90S...EXCEPT IN
THE RAIN-COOLED AREA NORTH WHERE TEMPS ARE IN THE 70S.

TONIGHT...EXPECTING NOCTURNAL MCS TO DEVELOP ALONG SFC BOUNDARY IN
NORTHERN PART OF LCH CWA...BRINGING THE CHANCE OF T-STORMS TO THE
LAKES REGION OF E TX AND CEN LA OVERNIGHT. WILL CARRY SMALL POPS DOWN
TO I-10 CORRIDOR OF BPT-LCH-LFT. THE COMBINATION OF SFC BOUNDARY AND
MID LEVEL SPEED MAX/VORT MAX (SEEN ON 315/325 K SFC) SHOULD BE THE
FOCUSING MECHANISM.

THIS MID-LEVEL FEATURE SAGS TO THE SOUTH ON SUNDAY...SO WILL CARRY
POPS ACROSS THE REGION SUNDAY. DO NOT ANTICIPATE SEVERE WEATHER
WITH MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND DRY AIR ENTRAINMENT SMALL. TEMPS
SHOULD BE A LITTLE LOWER WITH CLOUD COVER AND PRECIP SHIELD...SO WILL
GO UPPER 80S TO LOWER 90S.

BY MONDAY...DRIER AIR IN PLACE...AS WILL THE HOT TEMPS. COULD SEE
SOME PLACES CROSS THE 100 DEGREE MARK WITH SW WINDS. WILL NEED TO
MONITOR FOR POSSIBLE HEAT ADVISORY BY MONDAY.

THE HOT WEATHER SHOULD HOLD ON FOR SEVERAL DAYS...DEPENDING ON
THE FUTURE TRACK OF TS CHANTAL. OTHERWISE THE NEXT THREAT OF RAIN
LOOKS TO BE TOWARDS THE END OF THE WEEK.

THANKS TO HGX/NEW FOR COASTAL WATERS COORDINATION.
