AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN 320 AM CST FRI FEB 16 2001 A VIGOROUS UPPER LEVEL SHORT WAVE WILL MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY AND GRADUALLY WEAKEN. THIS SYSTEM WILL REACH THE TENNESSEE VALLEY TONIGHT AND BE FLATTENED OUT AS IT REACHES THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS BY EARLY SATURDAY. AT THE SURFACE A COLD FRONT EXTENDING FROM EAST TEXAS ACROSS SOUTHERN ARKANSAS AND NORTH CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI WILL SAG SLOWLY SOUTHWARD TODAY. A SURFACE LOW OVER EAST TEXAS WILL TRACK NORTHEASTWARD ALONG THE FRONT AND PROVIDE SOME ADDITIONAL LIFT. THE RESULT WILL BE MORE MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN OVER THE MID SOUTH THAT WILL SPREAD SOUTHWARD TODAY AND INCLUDE NORTH MISSISSIPPI. THE BEST ISENTROPIC LIFT WILL BE OVER NORTH MISSISSIPPI TODAY. THEREFORE A NEW FLASH FLOOD WATCH WILL BE ISSUED TO INCLUDE ALL OF THE MID SOUTH FOR TODAY.
