AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ALBUQUERQUE NM
315 PM MDT TUE JUL 10 2001

PERSISTENCE LOOKS TO BE THE BEST FORECAST FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS.
CENTER OF UPPER RIDGE TO REMAIN EAST OF CWA WITH A DECENT SOUTHERLY
FLOW CONTINUING ALONG THE WESTERN BORDER. WEAK DISTURBANCES WITHIN
THE SHEAR ZONE OVER AZ ARE FORECAST TO MOVE NORTH ALONG THE WESTERN
PERIPHERY OF THE RIDGE GIVING THE BEST CHANCES FOR WETTING RAINS
TONIGHT AND WED ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTHWESTERN ZONES. A FEW STORMS
ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY BUT THESE WILL LIKELY BE
LOCALLY GENERATED BY AFTERNOON HEATING THE OROGRAPHICS MIXING WITH
MODEST MOISTURE. EASTERN ZONES TO REMAIN DRY FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT
36-48 HOURS. RAIN CHANCES INCREASING THU NIGHT AND FRIDAY, MAINLY
ACROSS THE NORTH AND NORTHEAST...AS THE UPPER RIDGE RETROGRADES WEST
ALLOWING FOR A MORE W-WNW FLOW. AT THE SAME TIME, RAIN CHANCES
DIMINISH...BUT NOT COMPLETELY...ACROSS THE WEST WITH THE UPPER FLOW
LEANING TOWARDS A DRIER SOUTHWEST DIRECTION. THE 12Z AVN CONTINUES TO
INDICATE THAT THE UPPER RIDGE GETS SQUASHED SOUTH AND WEST AS A
STRONG UPPER TROF MOVES INTO THE PACIFIC NW. SOUTHWEST FLOW BECOMES
MORE EVIDENT WITH A FEW SHORT WAVES MOVING THROUGH THE FLOW. THIS
WILL ALLOW FOR A CONTINUATION OF DAILY DIURNAL CROPS OF THUNDERSTORMS
AT MOST LOCATIONS. TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR THE CENTURY MARK ACROSS
THE EAST ON WEDNESDAY WITH A GRADUAL COOL DOWN THROUGH THE END OF THE
WEEK AS THE MOISTURE INCREASES. THE WEST COULD SEE TEMPS A FEW
DEGREES HIGHER BY END OF THE WEEK AS THE MOISTURE DECREASES AND THE
CENTER OF THE UPPER RIDGE BUILDS OVER THE STATE.
