AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OMAHA NE
300 PM CST MON MAR 19 2001
SHORT TERM CONCERN IS LOW CLOUD BAND ACRS MUCH OF CWA WITH LONGER
TERM FCST EMPHASIS THEN SHIFTING TO PCPN PROB AND TEMPS ON WED.
LATEST VSBL STLT AT 20Z SHOWD CLRG LINE MADE IT TO JUST NW OF A OFK
TO SUX LINE WITH A RELATIVELY THICK SC EXTDG SE ABOUT 60-80 MILES
WIDE WITH CLDS IN SERN NEBR/SWRN IA MORE CELLULAR. THE CELLULAR
CLDS SHOULD DECREASE WITH LOSS OF HTG...AND THICKER CLDS COULD
DECREASE AS WELL...BUT LATER TNGT...AS WNDS ABV THE SFC BECOME SWRLY
AND INCREASE AS FNT APPROACHES. ALTHOUGH CLOUD FCST NWRN ZONES WL
BE INFLUENCED BY INCREASE IN HIGH CLDS LATER TNGT...MOST AREAS
SHOULD BE OR BECOME PTCLDY TNGT. GUID LOWS LOOK GOOD.
FOR TUE...MOISTURE AHD OF FNT IS MARGINAL...BUT WITH SOME
CONVERGENCE EXPECTED...WL CONT SMALL POPS ALNG AND NW OF 18Z
MESOETAS FNTL FCST FOR LATE AFTN TUE...MAINLY ARND AND NW OF OMA.
ALTHOUGH DOWNSLOPE WINDS PLAYED A ROLE...IT WAS VERY MILD UPSTREAM
AHD OF FNT THIS AFTN...WITH LOCATIONS IN THICKER MID/HIGH CLDS
REACHING WELL INTO THE 50S TO LOWER 60S WITH A 70 NOTED AT HVR MT.
ALTHOUGH SOME AFTN COOL ADVCTN NWRN ZONES COULD KEEP READINGS A FEW
DEGREES BLO GUID...IT APPEARS IT WOULD TAKE LOW CLD DECK TO RMN IN
PLACE TO KEEP READINGS MUCH BLO FWC VALUES REST OF FCST AREA...AND
THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKELY. SO WL ADJ FCST TWD FWC NUMBERS...WHICH
WAS WHERE PREV FCST WAS MOST LOCATIONS.
TUE NGT/WED LOOKS MORE INTERESTING IN THAT AVN CONTS TREND SEEN YDA
OF GENERATING PCPN ACRS STATE WHILE ETA SPREADS PCPN ACRS MAINLY
WRN/SRN NEBR. WITH THE FNT WEAKENING THEN STALLING OUT OVR
KS...RELATIVELY STG BAROCLINIC AREA SETS UP JUST TO OUR SW. BOTH
AVN AND ETA FCST ISENTROPIC LIFT DVLPG TUE NGT THEN SPRDG E ON WED.
700-500 MB QG FORCING THOUGH...EVEN FM AVN...IS MAINLY CNTRL AND SRN
ZONES ON WED. MEANWHILE...AVN QPF BULLSEYE IS FTHR N THAN IT'S FCST
QG FORCING AND A LTL N OF ETA'S PLACEMENT. SO ALTHOUGH FEEL AVN
COULD BE OVERDOING PCPN FCST NRN ZONES...IT HAS BEEN CONSISTENT AND
IS WORTH A SLGT CHC N. WL RUN A LTL HIGHER POPS S WHERE BTR FORCING
WAS NOTED AND 700-500 MB LAPSE RATES WERE STEEPER. BECAUSE OF
EXPECTED CLOUDS...FAN/FWC TEMPS LOOK TOO WARM AND WL GO CLOSER TO
MAV OR EVEN A LTL BLO.
WE WL COUNT ON ONLY A MODIFIED PIECE OF THE ARCTIC AIRMASS NOW OVR
NWRN CAN MOVING INTO THE PLAINS THROUGH TBHE WEEKEND AS STGR JET RMNS
ZONAL AND TO OUR N INTO SAT BFR BECOMING MORE NWRLY BUT STILL MAINLY
N OF FCST AREA.
