AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
330 AM CDT WED JUL 4 2001
PRESENT 88D RADAR SHOWED ONGOING DEEP CONVECTION OVER SE MO AND S IL
ASSOCIATED WITH PVA AND INSTABILITY GRADIENT. SFC BASED LI'S LESS
THAN -5 NOTED ACROSS S THIRD OF FORECAST AREA...AND CAPES...WHILE
DECREASING...WERE STILL MORE THAN 2500 J/KG ACROSS THE SAME AREA
ACCORDING TO RUC. THE TSRA'S WERE SHOWING AT LEAST TEMPORARY SIGNS
OF DIMINISHING THIS MORNING. THE CENTER OF THE 500-700H VORT IS
PROGGED TO SWEEP ACROSS S IL BY 12Z.
MODELS INDICATE A DRY SLOT MAY DEVELOP AHEAD OF A PREFONTAL SFC TROF
TODAY. THERE ARE SOME DIFF IN MOISTURE FIELDS AND THUS
INSTABILITY BUT NEAR THE FRONT ITSELF SFC LI'S OF AT LEAST -6 ARE
SHOWN. SWODY1 PROPERLY HINTS AT SVR POSSIBILITY TODAY WITH
COMBINATION OF MOISTURE ADVECTION...WIND SHEAR AND HEATING OF DAY.
NGM IS STILL THE FASTEST WITH FROPA AND DRIEST. THINKING IS THAT
FRONT'S DEWPOINT GRADIENT WILL MAKE IT THRU THE FA BY 06Z THU. PLAN
TO MAINTAIN GOING PRECIP TRENDS IN FORECAST...WITH POSSIBLE TWEAKS
IN THE POP NUMBERS IN PERIODS 1-2. ANOTHER MINOR PERTUBATION IN THE
UPPER FLOW MAY KICK OFF SOME CONVECTION FOR THE SW SECTOR OF THE FA
THU (PERIOD 3). SOME DIFF IN GUIDANCE TEMPS IN NEAR TERM...MAY TWEAK
WHILE KEEPING IN MIND THE CONVECTION POSSIBILITIES.
IN THE EXTENDED....MODELS HAVE EXPANDED THE RIDGE OVER THE W CONUS
AND THEREFORE DEPICT LONGWAVE TROF IN THE E CONUS TO BE FARTHER E
AND HOLD THE FA IN A TRANSITION AREA (THREAT OF CLOUDS AND PRECIP).
DON'T EXPECT TO MAKE MAJOR CHANGES ATTM.
.PAH...NONE.
