Thunderstorms and heavy showers caused ponding of roadways and minor drainage ditch and stream flooding from the Wahiawa- Mililani area to the southwest part of Oahu. No serious property damage or injuries were reported.

AFDHI HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SYNOPTIC DISCUSSION AND GUIDANCE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI 830 PM HST SAT MAR 24 2001 SUMMARY...CLOUDS...SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS PERSIST ACROSS THE STATE TONIGHT AS SOUTHERLY 10 TO 20 MPH WINDS BRING IN LOW LEVEL MOISTURE. WINDS WILL BECOME SOUTHEASTERLY TOMORROW AND GRADUAL DRYING SHOULD OCCUR. SUNNIER WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO RETURN FOR MUCH OF NEXT WEEK AS THE SURFACE RIDGE OVER THE ISLANDS STRENGTHENS AGAIN. DISCUSSION...SHOWERS...SOME HEAVY WITH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS...ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH ARE MOVING ACROSS THE CENTRAL ISLANDS THIS EVENING. WHILE MOST OF THE ACTIVITY LIES NORTH OF THE ISLANDS...RADAR SHOWS MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS AND POSSIBLE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF WEST OAHU AND JUST SOUTHWEST OF MOLOKAI AND LANAI. MOVEMENT IS TO THE NORTH NORTHEAST AT ABOUT 20 MILES PER HOUR. MODELS SHOW THIS UPPER TROUGH MOVING EASTWARD TONIGHT AND SUNDAY...RESULTING IN DECREASING SHOWERS AFTER TONIGHT. AS THE NEW WEEK BEGINS WE WILL BE UNDER A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE AND ALOFT SO SUNNIER WEATHER WILL PREDOMINATE. OTHER FEATURES IN THE COMING WEEK INCLUDE A LARGE AND BROAD TROUGH IN THE UPPER WESTERLIES NEAR THE DATELINE AROUND MIDWEEK AND A CUTOFF LOW ALOFT APPROACHING FROM THE EAST.
