SUMMARY...A WET WEEKEND IN STORE FOR THE WESTERN END OF THE STATE... KAUAI IN PARTICULAR...WITH A STRONG CHANCE FOR HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AND POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING. THE OTHER ISLANDS WILL SEE CONSIDERABLE CLOUDINESS WITH SHOWERS AT TIMES...SOME MAY BE HEAVY WITH CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. DISCUSSION...CONVERGENT SURFACE AIR FLOW BENEATH DIVERGENT AIR FLOW ALOFT WITH THE ADDED SPARK OF THE BIG ISLAND CONVERGENCE PLUME TURNING NORTHWESTWARD JUST TO THE SOUTH OF KAUAI HAS PROMPTED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THAT ISLAND. HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE BEEN OCCURRING OVER KAUAI THIS MORNING...WITH 7.25 INCHES OF RAINFALL REPORTED AT THE HANALEI GAGE OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS...WITH NEARLY 5.5 INCHES OF THAT IN THE LAST 6 HOURS. WAINIHA CONTINUES TO SEE HEAVY SHOWERS THIS MORNING...AND BARKING SANDS ALSO REPORTING A THUNDERSTORM CONTINUING FOR THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS. THIS HAS PROMPTED THE ISSUANCE AND CONTINUATION OF AN URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR THE ENTIRE ISLAND OF KAUAI. FORECAST CHARTS ARE NOT INDICATING MUCH CHANGE IN THIS SITUATION RIGHT THROUGH THE WEEKEND...AND THIS COULD SPELL TROUBLE FOR THE WESTERN ISLANDS OF KAUAI AND OAHU. FOR THE REST OF THE STATE EXPECT SKIES TO REMAIN CLOUDY THROUGH THE WEEKEND...WITH SOME SHOWERS AT TIMES. SOME OF THESE SHOWERS COULD BE HEAVY...ESPECIALLY ON THE BIG ISLAND DUE TO LOCAL EFFECTS.
