Flood in Hawaii, February 12 to 13, 2001
Heavy showers caused flooding of normally dry streambed, which then flooded part of the Hawaii Belt Road in the Kau District that had been damaged during major flooding in November 2000. The Hawaii Belt Road was closed for a time on the 13th due to this flooding, which then caused three schools to close since students could not get to class.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SYNOPTIC DISCUSSION AND GUIDANCE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI 830 PM HST MON FEB 12 2001 SUMMARY...THE LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN HAS ENDED LEAVING THE ISLANDS UNDER PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND BRIEF LIGHT TO MODERATE SHOWERS. THE TRADE WINDS WILL RETURN TUESDAY AND BECOME STRONG AND GUSTY WEDNESDAY. DISCUSSION...THE CONVECTIVE PATTERN OF THE LAST FEW DAYS WILL END WITH THE RETURN OF THE TRADE WINDS. LATEST MODELS SHOW THE TRADES INCREASING OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS AND STOPPING THE SHEARLINE IN ITS TRACK JUST WEST OF KAUAI. THEY ALSO SHOW A SURFACE HIGH NOW NEAR 42N 164W STRENGTHENING WHILE MOVING SOUTHEAST TOWARDS HAWAII. THE PRESSURE GRADIENT SOUTH OF THE HIGH WILL BE QUITE TIGHT AND THE RESULTANT TRADES WILL BE A GUSTY 20 TO 30 MPH BY WEDNESDAY.
