WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
231 PM EDT THU MAY 31 2001

CURRENTLY...VISIBLE SATELLITE LOOP DEPICTS WEST COAST SEA BREEZE
CONTINUING TO MARCH EAST TOWARD INTERIOR ZONES EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.
THE CU FIELD HAS BEEN STRUGGLING TO DEVELOP DUE TO LACK OF MOISTURE
AND SUBSIDENCE ALOFT...HOWEVER WITH CONTINUED HEATING SHOULD BEGIN
TO SEE A FAIRLY GOOD CU CANOPY DEVELOP MAINLY OVER INTERIOR AND
SOUTHWESTERN ZONES THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON. ALONG THE COAST
MARINE LAYER WILL KEEP THINGS MOSTLY SUNNY. WITH THE EAST COAST SEA
BREEZE PUNCHING WEST FROM THE LAKE SOUTH...WILL LIKELY HAVE BEST
CHANCES OF SHOWERS/STORMS FROM HIGHLANDS COUNTY SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST
WHERE EAST/WEST SEA BREEZE MERGERS TAKES PLACE. WITH THIS IN MIND
WILL CARRY A LOW EVENING POP (20-30%) IN THESE LOCATIONS.

FORECAST...MODELS ARE FAIRLY SIMILAR IN MOVING A SHORT WAVE TROUGH
NOW OVER THE MID MS VALLEY E-NEWD INTO THE GREAT LAKES REGION BY
LATER TONIGHT AND FRIDAY AS YET ANOTHER UPSTREAM STRONGER TROUGH
DIGS SOUTHEAST INTO THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY THE BEGINNING OF THE
UPCOMING WEEKEND. TAIL END OF FIRST SHORT WAVE IS EXPECTED TO SWEEP
SEWD ACROSS THE NORTHERN GULF STATES LATER TONIGHT AND ACROSS THE
NORTH-CENTRAL PENINSULA LATE ON FRIDAY. AHEAD OF THIS FEATURE MODELS
DRAMATICALLY INCREASE PW'S ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA LATE TONIGHT
THROUGH FRIDAY WITH PW'S APPROACHING THE 2" MARK BY FRIDAY EVENING.
UPPER SUPPORT WILL HELP TO ENHANCE UVV FIELDS FRIDAY AND FRIDAY
NIGHT...ESPECIALLY ACROSS MY NORTHERN MOST ZONES. THIS IN COMBINATION
WITH INCREASING PW'S WILL LEAD TO INCREASED PROSPECTS FOR SHOWERS AND
STORMS ACROSS MUCH OF THE FA. WITH THIS IN MIND...PLAN TO ADVERTISE
HIGHEST POPS (LIKELY CATEGORY) NORTH...AND TREND POPS BACK AS ONE
MOVES SOUTH. WITH THE STEERING FLOW OUT OF THE WEST...BEST
CONCENTRATION OF PRECIP WILL LIKELY BE OVER MY INTERIOR AND EASTERN
MOST ZONES.

BY SATURDAY BULK OF THE UPPER SUPPORT WILL BE MOVING NEWD...HOWEVER
TRAILING SURFACE COLD FRONT SAGGING SEWD INTO THE NORTHERN PENINSULA
ALONG WITH ADEQUATE MOISTURE AND SEA BREEZE COLLISIONS WILL CONTINUE
TO SUPPORT SCATTERED SHOWERS/TSTMS ACROSS THE FA DURING THE PM HOURS.
TEMPERATURES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WILL BE SOMEWHAT COOLER THAN
PREVIOUS DAYS DUE TO INCREASED CLOUD COVER AND PRECIP CHANCES.
GUIDANCE NUMBERS ARE CLOSE...AND WILL USE A BLEND IN MOST LOCATIONS.

EXTENDED...WEAK HIGH PRESSURE REBUILDS ACROSS THE FA DURING THE
SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY TIME FRAME WITH DIURNAL SEA BREEZE DRIVEN
CONVECTION EXPECTED. BY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY ANOTHER UPPER TROUGH
AND COLD FRONT WILL BE APPROACHING FROM THE WEST. GIVEN THIS SCENARIO
WILL ADVERTISE SCATTERED POPS THROUGHOUT THE PERIOD.

MARINE...POSITION OF SURFACE RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT A
SOUTHWEST TO WESTERLY FLOW OVER THE ENTIRE MARINE AREA TONIGHT
THROUGH TUESDAY. GRADIENT WILL REMAIN WEAK ENOUGH TO SUPPORT ONSHORE
SEA BREEZE COMPONENT EACH AFTERNOON. NO HIGHLIGHTS ARE EXPECTED.

FIRE WEATHER...INCREASING RH LEVELS WILL PRECLUDE THE NEED FOR ANY
WATCHES OR RED FLAG WARNING THROUGH SATURDAY.
