As a weak trough of low pressure approached the region, scattered severe thunderstorms developed. As they moved east, severe thunderstorms produced high winds that downed numerous tree limbs and whole trees in Newton, Seymour, Shelton, and Ansonia. Power lines were downed in Newton, and several houses were struck by lightning in Shelton.
