SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST COLORADO AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PUEBLO COLORADO
236 PM MDT SAT JUN 2 2001

CHALLENGE IN THIS PACKAGE IS CHC OF EVENING TSTMS.

SURFACE HIGH HAS SLIPPED SOUTHWARD INTO NRN KS AS UPPER RIDGE AXIS
CENTERS OVER COLORADO. DIURCAL INFLUENCE AND WEAK SFC HIGH PROVIDING
WEAK UPSLOPE OVER SOUTHEAST. NOT MUCH DYNAMICS TO WORK WITH SO LATE
AFTN AND EVG CONVECTION WILL HAVE ROUGH TIME BREAKING THE MID LEVEL
CAP. LAPS SOUNDINGS SUGGEST CONVECTIVE TEMP AT PUB OF 88.

RUC40 SUGGESTS THERE IS A WEAK VORT CENTER THAT WILL MOVE ACROSS SRN
MTNS BUT NOTHING SHOWS ON SAT YET. IF THIS IS VALID THERE COULD BE
SOME HELP FOR CONVECTION. ISOLATED -TS DEVELOPED AT RIDGE OF BEST
CAPE AND LI'S WEST OF TAD. THIS FELL APART AND NEW CELL DEVELOPED
SAME AREA. FLAT CU SHOWING UP OVER CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND PALMER
DIVIDE THAT WILL PROBABLY HELP HOLD TEMPS DOWN SOME THAT AREA.
TROUBLE SPOT MAY BE VCNTY PUB WHERE TEMPS APPROACHING THE CONVECTIVE
TEMP AND DEW POINTS IN THE LOW 50S. WILL PROBABLY SEE A FEW MORE
TSTMS SHOWING UP AS WE REACH MAX HEATING BUT COVERAGE SHOULD STAY
ISOLATED. PROFILERS IN SE CO AND NE NM HAVE VEERING WINDS
INCREASING WITH HEIGHT. LI'S AROUND -4 MOST AREAS. WILL HAVE TO
WATCH DEVELOPMENT CLOSELY. WILL ADD SOME ISOLATED TS IN 75/76 BUT
WILL LEAVE THEM OUT TO THE NORTH AND WAIT TO SEE IF WE CAN BREAK THE
CAP. IF WE CAN GET TO 88 AT PUB THINGS COULD GO FAST. EVEN SO
COVERAGE WILL BE ISOLATED AT BEST. COORD WITH SPC CONCERNING
POTENTIAL WW AND FELT IT BEST TO HOLD OFF.

UPPER LOW OVER NW US PROGGED TO SLIDE SOUTHEAST FLATTENING OUT THE
RIDGE. WEAK SURGE PROGGED IN LATE SUNDAY OR EARLY MONDAY THAT WILL
COOL US OFF A BIT. POPS ON CURRENT FORECAST SEEM OKAY GIVEN LIMITED
MOISTURE AVAILABLE.

MRF TRYING TO BRING IN PRECIP FOR TUE AND THUR BUT CONFIDENCE IS LOW
CONSIDERING STRENGTH OF UPPER RIDGE AND MID LEVEL CAPF. WILL LEAVE
THE EXTENDED ALONE AND ADD SATURDAY AS ANOTHER DRY AND WARM DAY.

PUB...NONE.
