THE COMBINATION OF AN EAST PACIFIC TROUGH MOVING ONSHORE AND
TROPICAL MOISTURE FROM TROPICAL STORM KIKO HAS RESULTED IN A BAND OF
MODERATE TO ISOLATED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MOVING FROM WESTERN FRESNO
COUNTY THROUGH WESTERN MADERA COUNTY INTO MARIPOSA COUNTY AND
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK. RADAR AND SATELLITE LOOPS SHOW CONVECTIVE
ACTIVITY LIFTING TO THE NORTHEAST...WITH THE TAIL END OF THE BAND
MOVING INTO FRESNO COUNTY AT THIS TIME. STRONGEST ACTIVITY SHOULD
MOVE NORTH OF THE HANFORD WARNING/FORECAST AREA BY SUNRISE...BUT A
FEW SHOWERS MAY LINGER OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE REGION THROUGH
THE MORNING HOURS.
SATELLITE LOOPS SHOW THE UPPER-LEVEL LOW NEAR 39N/125W...WITH A
STRONG VORTICITY CENTER AT 37N/126W. THE LOW IS MOVING SLOWER THAN
FORECAST BY THE 00Z MODELS...RESULTING IN GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS
CONTINUING OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA
AND TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS THROUGH TODAY AND INTO THE EVENING.
THE LOW IS MOVING THROUGH A BROAD EAST-PACIFIC TROUGH ASSOCIATED
WITH A GULF OF ALASKA LOW NEAR 55N/143W. THIS TROUGH IS FORECAST TO
REMAIN OFFSHORE THROUGH THURSDAY...ALLOWING A FEW DEGREES OF WARMING
OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS THE UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE
DESERT SOUTHWEST EXPANDS WESTWARD INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. WILL SEE
