WESTERN NEVADA AND EASTERN CALIFORNIA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RENO NV 900 AM PDT TUE JUL 10 2001 LIGHT SSW FLOW ALOFT CONTINUES OVER NE CA AND WRN NV. WATER VAPOR IMAGES SHOW SOME DRYING ALOFT FROM THE SOUTH AS A WEAK UPPER SHORT WAVE MOVES NORTH OVER NRN CA AND NW NV THIS MORNING. THE MODELS SHIFT THE STRONGER DYNAMICS INTO SRN OREGON WITH THIS FEATURE BY AFTERNOON. HOWEVER...A LESS PROMINENT AND PERHAPS MID LEVEL MOIST PLUME CAN BE SEEN PERSISTING UNDER THE UPPER DRYING FROM SRN CA NORTH OVER MONO CA AND WEST CENTRAL NV. THE RUC AND OTHER MODELS INDICATE A LOW/UPPER CONVERGENCE/DIVERGENCE COUPLET OVER MINERAL TO CHURCHILL COUNTIES THIS AFTERNOON. GIVEN LESS CLOUD SOUTH...EARLY CONVECTION OVER THE CENTRAL SIERRA APPEARS LIKELY THEN DEVELOPING NORTH...ESPECIALLY WITH THE ABOVE COUPLET. CLOUD COVER SHOULD SLOW DEVELOPMENT OVER NW NV THIS MORNING. THERE ARE NO OBVIOUS FEATURES TO CONTINUE NOCTURNAL SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS. A LITTLE STRONGER AND MORE STABLE SSW FLOW ALOFT WEDNESDAY COULD PUSH AFTERNOON CONVECTION EAST OFF THE SIERRA CREST BUT THIS WILL BE REVIEWED FOR THE AFTERNOON PACKAGE. OSTERMAN. .REV...NONE.
