Thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening of the 13th produced damaging winds and hail up to one and one half inches in diameter.Thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines across Bath County closing many roads, gusted to 63 miles an hour 1 1/2 miles north northwest of Lexington, downed trees onto Route 39, closing it two miles north of Lexington, downed trees and power lines in Kerrs Creek, downed trees 2 miles west of Figsboro, downed trees onto Route 704, three and one half miles northeast of Elamsville, downed trees and power lines in Big Island, downed trees in Chatham and Keeling, downed trees 8 miles southeast of Buckingham, and downed trees 1 mile north of Lynchburg.Lightning strikes started a forest fire about 3 miles northwest of Big Island. The fire burned approximately 200 hundred acres of forest.
