Lightning struck and killed a man doing yardwork near a tree in the Great Neck Point section of Virginia Beach. Witnesses said there was no rain falling in the area at the time, and described the bolt as coming out of clear skies.

Lightning struck up to six homes in the Ghent and Ocean View sections of Norfolk. One bolt hit a tree on Old Ocean View Road and started a fire. The burning tree then fell into a nearby home. Occupants of the house escaped without injury.
