A couple of long-lived supercells tracked from western Palo Pinto through southern Parker counties from 1500 CST to 1800 CST, and from northern Hood into Johnson and Ellis counties 1700 to 2000 CST.

March 25-26, 2000 - Event NarrativeThunderstorms the afternoon and evening of the 25th, and early morning hours of the 26th.A cluster of severe storms developed over Young, Stephens, and Palo Pinto counties and moved east-southeast across north central Texas. A couple of long-lived supercells tracked from western Palo Pinto through southern Parker counties from 1500 CST to 1800 CST, and from northern Hood into Johnson and Ellis counties 1700 to 2000 CST. Other storms developed in the wake of this storm over Somervell county, and moved across southern Johnson, northern Hill, and western Navarro counties 2030C to 2230 CST.Additional storms developed over Young, Jack, Palo Pinto, and Parker counties around 2300 CST, and followed similar paths through Hood, Johnson, southern Tarrant, northern Hill, Navarro, Freestone, and Anderson counties, into the early morning hours of the 26th.

Wind driven hail did extensive damage along a line from the northern part of Glen Rose to Rainbow to Nemo. Approximately 50 homes were damaged at Glen Rose. Some hail drifts were still visible the next morning.

Hail and high wind did extensive damage over northern Hill county from Blum to Hillsboro. This is the same storm that struck Somervell county. The wind unroofed barns, uprooted trees, and damaged homes and buildings. Large hail broke windows and dented vehicles. Three 18-wheelers were blown over while trying to wait out the storm on the side of I-35 just north of Hillsboro. Wind driven hail broke or cracked over 200 windows in Hillsboro, some in the recently reconstructed historic court house. Water subsequently damage carpet and floors. Some hail stones in Hillsboro were as large as baseballs. Approximately 17,000 acres of wheat were ruined. The newspaper quoted this as the worst hail storm in Hillsboro since the 1980s.
