Severe storms pounded the Big Country during the evening hours of the 29th and early morning hours of the 30th. The town of Stamford along the Haskell and Jones County line was heavily damaged, as hail larger than baseballs pounded the area.

Severe storms pounded the Big Country during the evening hours of the 29th and early morning hours of the 30th. The town of Stamford along the Haskell and Jones County line was heavily damaged, as hail larger than baseballs pounded the area. Three storms produced at least golf ball size hail in the town of Stamford over a 90 minute period. Many homes, businesses, and vehicles suffered severe hail damage. Later in the night, a severe downburst ripped through Haskell and Throckmorton counties. The town of Throckmorton itself saw the worst damage, as the high school and hospital lost parts of their roofs.

A downburst tore through the central and western sections of Throckmorton County during the early morning hours, causing extensive wind damage. Grain silos and power lines were damaged west of the town of Throckmorton, but the town itself took the brunt of the storm. The winds peeled parts of the roofs off of both the local high school and the hospital in Throckmorton, allowing rain to enter into the buildings and damage the contents. Many other homes and businesses throughout the town suffered severe roof damage as well.
