There were also reports of downed utility poles and lightning strikes in the area. 2000 people were left without power.
Flash flooding in Athens, Litchfield, and Windham townships caused extensive road washouts, destroyed or damaged several bridges, and flooded basements and up to the first floor of numerous residences. 100 children were stranded at a school in Litchfield for 2 to 3 hours during the event. Parks Creek in Litchfield carried 3 abandoned cars one quarter of a mile into the Susquehanna River. Dogs swam to safety due to extensive flooding at a kennel. Minor damage also reported from a fire caused by a lightning strike on Cole Street in Athens. A State of Emergency declared due to the magnitude and extent of flood damage.
