Torrential thunderstorm rains falling onto nearly saturated ground in Fayette County during the afternoon hours of the 6th produced widespread flash flooding. Several round of thunderstorms produced a total of 4.8 inches of rain in Connellsville on the 6th, with many other locations in the county reporting rainfall totals of between 2 and 4 inches. The areas most affected by the flooding were Mill Run, Perryopolis, Connellsville, South Connellsville, Dunbar, Dawson and the Bullskin Township area. The emergency coordinator for the Connellsville Fire Department estimated they received about 90 calls during the 6th, most of which were to pump out flooded basements. Over 350 calls to the county's 911 number were recorded as a result of the flooding. County officials report that 1 mobile home was destroyed, 5 single-dwelling units received major damage and 138 homes received minor damage, mostly basement flooding. The flooding also caused 185 passengers and 10 crew members of an Amtrak train to disembark in Connellsville after tracks on the train's route in Steward Township (eastern Fayette County) were washed out.
