A large grass fire started near the intersection of Memorial and Douglas and jumped the Turner Turnpike, causing the highway to be closed for nearly 4 hours. Twenty-five fire departments assisted in extinguishing the blaze, which consumed 80 acres of grass and injured two firefighters. One firefighter suffered a minor head injury, while another was treated for heat exhaustion. The cause of the fire was unknown.
