Heavy snow fell throughout Eastern Oklahoma on Thursday, January 27. Cold air settled into Eastern Oklahoma earlier in the week setting the stage for the snow event. The snow fell in association with an upper level system moving northeast into the plains out of the desert southwest. This upper system tapped gulf moisture which rode up over the dome of cold air. Light snow fell in advance of the upper level system on Wednesday generally resulting in less than an inch of accumulation due to the warm ground. The snow ended for a while Wednesday night. Heavy snow began to fall early Thursday morning and continued into Thursday afternoon.
