As a line containing severe thunderstorms swept southeast across the region, it produced damaging wind gusts, large hail (from 0.75 to 1.00 inch in diameter), heavy rain and lightning "mainly" from New York City north and west.In Orange County, on Highland Ave. in Middletown, a tree crashed onto a car. On Route 211 in the Town of Walkill, the entire roof blew off a deli. Emergency workers closed Route 211 from Certified Drive to Stratton Ave. as bits of shredded roof material littered the roadway. Wind gusts in these areas were estimated near 80 mph. Spotters reported hail from 0.75 inches at Huguenot to 0.88 inches in diameter at Maybrook. Trees were downed in Greenwood Lake.In Westchester County, spotters reported trees down in Yorktown Heights and tree limbs down in White Plains. Hail also occurred at Westchester County Airport.In Southern Rockland County, tree limbs were downed.In New York City, a spotter reported downed trees in the Bronx. A large awning was blown off a building in Brooklyn. Hail up to 1.00 inch in diameter was reported near Woodside in Maspeth, Queens.In Suffolk County, high winds downed large tree limbs at Wading River Elementary School.
