A rare freezing rain event swept south over the Sandia and Manzano Mountains reaching as far south as the Sacramento Mountains. A shallow layer of cold air had banked up against the eastern slopes of the central and southern mountains. Freezing rain began to accumulate on limbs and power lines around mid-evening in the mountain communities from Tijeras south to Mountainair. Nearly a 1000 customers in Torrance, Valencia and extreme southeast Bernalillo counties lost power by around 145 AM. Lighter damage was reported as far south as Ruidoso.
