Hail and Damaging Winds in New Mexico, July 29, 2000
A strong thunderstorm over Moriarty blew down several trees, overturned at least 1 mobile home and flipped over a small airplane with winds of 55 to 60 mph. The storm also produced copious amounts of hail most of which was about 1/2 inch in diameter but reached 6 inches deep at some locations.

A strong thunderstorm over Moriarty blew down several trees, overturned at least 1 mobile home and flipped over a small airplane with winds of 55 to 60 mph. The storm also produced copious amounts of hail most of which was about 1/2 inch in diameter but reached 6 inches deep at some locations. Isolated large stones of 1.5 inches in diameter were also reported. Hail was so bad and caused so many auto wrecks on Interstate 40 just east of town that the State Police was forced to close the highway for several hours.
